Rolling Paper

Rolling Paper is a big name for a small app; all this little utility does is swap your wallpaper around from time to time based upon a pre-selected folder full of backgrounds. Inspired by the feature in Mac OS X and the growing collection of wallpaper I am amassing, Rolling Paper is a great way to surprise yourself or just turn your desktop into a rotating picture frame.

To use Rolling Paper, all you do is install it. When running, Rolling Paper leaves a small window icon in the system tray; to open settings, just right-click. The folder Rolling Paper draws images from can be selected here, as well as the interval at which wallpapers should be cycled.

It’s also designed to be set-and-forget; if you set it to monitor the folder where you stash the family portraits, then add a few new ones, Rolling Paper will automatically take them into account when it goes scavenging for the next wallpaper.

I realize that Rolling Paper is far from perfect, but it’s a great start and a nice little alternative to those ad-sponsored, bloated versions.
